Water (the W in NEWSTART)– General Principles of Life’s Underrated Fluid

Just looking at this glass of water makes me want to drink some!

The Humble Giant

I have experienced some unique perspectives on water over the last few years. I know people in the past who have frankly told me they either don’t take “mere” water, or know people who don’t take water to quench their thirst. They take pop, wine or some other drink instead. In a way, I kind of get it. Water is just water – or is it?

Science tells us our bodies are made up of 60 – 70% water. It also tells us we can’t survive beyond four to five days without it. Yes, water is very key. In fact, water is most useful because of its “blandness” and simplicity.  Because it (ideally) brings little to no solutes in, it can help “dilute” the solute load in the blood and flush out toxins in your urine.

Don’t sleep on water, folks.

General Principles of Water

What are some general principles of water intake I can share?

1.      Do not quench your thirst with anything but pure, simple water.

2.      Begin your day with one or two glasses of water – warm water is better – first thing in the morning.

3.      For hydration and best results, take just enough water to ensure clear urine throughout the day – that might be about 2 – 2.5 liters throughout the day.

4.      There is such a thing as too much water – don’t overdo it.

5.      You can always take water, even (and arguably especially) whilst fasting.

6.      Soft drinks, coffee, wine and all the other lesser drinks in this class must never replace the greatest fluid - pure, clear water.

Make this underrated fluid your friend and your body will thank you.

Ayo.
